EMS Explorers Post 1557

Explorer Post 1557 was established in October 2015 as a joint effort between Osage Ambulance District and the Boy Scouts of America’s Learning for Life Program. The Explorer Post program through learning for life was established in 1988. Post 1557 provides youth of Osage County and surrounding areas the opportunity to explore a career in Emergency Medical Services. In addition to career exploration, the Explorer Post is designed to provide a link between the academic and career worlds, and provides participants with a wide variety of real-world skills. These include character development, self-confidence, leadership skills, and social development. The post provides youth the opportunity to network among future peers in the working world, provides access to volunteer community service, and encourages group collaboration and teamwork.

Emergency Medical Service Exploring is a worksite-based program that helps youth gain insight into a variety of programs that offer career activities in the healthcare field. For youth who are interested in careers in the field of healthcare, the program offers experiential learning with plenty of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.
Learn first-hand how exciting the job of Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics are by working side-by-side with actual EMT’s and Paramedics of Osage EMS. Following an introductory training program, EMS Explorers can have the ability to respond to real emergencies and assist them by performing routine, supervised tasks. EMS Explorers assist with virtually all routine tasks in the community and around the ambulance base, including community relations, event standbys, equipment and station maintenance, and training.

EMS Explorers wear a uniform, and are provided with helmets, turnouts, and other safety clothing when needed. They are welcome members of the ambulance crew when they volunteer.

Becoming an EMS Explorer is an excellent way to develop qualities and gain experience that will be helpful in nearly any field of endeavor.

To experience the excitement and challenge of being an Explorer, applicants must:
